Yes, this can take some time to work on.

First, be sure to not play up you saying goodbye and greeting when you see your dog after you return. Keep your greeting to somewhat mellow.

Second, start "training" him.. The site below has some good tips:

I leave my dog with a Molecuball filled with treats. Some people use the Kong. That can keep your pet entertained for quite a while.

Also consider getting a cheap towel that you sleep with, or a cheap undershirt that you've slept in and leave it with the dog. The scent of you helps calm the dog sometimes.

1800 pet meds has an awesome formula that will help. It works like a glade plug in but it re lases pheromones that the mother dog gives out after she births her pups. its 19.99 I think. The also have an additive for the water that you give that will calm them down.

There are different levels of seperation anxiety, how bad is your dogs?
Generally it is hard to correct a dog's mental state overnight. You should go see a vet if his seperation anxiety gets too bad.
One thing that can help is how you approach your dog once he is left alone. Try not to be too excited or give him too much attention when you first see him, that will only make the jim feed on it. Only give him attention once the he is nice and calm. If he can be calm when he sees you, it is easier for him to be calm when he doesnt see you.
Try to not be with him for a long periods of time. And try to come and go, so he can get used to not having you around.
But if his is really bad, you definately should go to a vet, or possibly a dog trainer, they can help correct him better. There isn't any simple over night solution... or at least that I know of.
